Argumentative Writing
Having a position on an issue is the easy part. Convincing others that your position is valid is much more complex. If you want to be taken seriously, it is important to understand the context of your position and evidence and build your argument accordingly. There are several methods that rhetors use - Classical, Rogerian, Toulmin, and the more recent "They Say. I Say." We'll be covering them all this semester.
Remember this graphic from rhetorical analysis? It's your turn to use this as an outlining tool to create your own arguments. This will be the backbone of every argument you make regardless of which method you employ.
